These are traditional crafts from Tochigi prefecture, called "sashimono" or woodwork, cabinet work, or joinery.
Sashimono is made by combining boards and square timbers such as Japanese persimmon, persimmon, and horse chestnut. They are made using complicated techniques such as stitching, mortise, and tenon, and are characterized by their beautiful grain and complicated yet reserved designs.
