Kutani-Ware Tea Cup & Coaster Pottery 九谷焼コースター

Ceramics produced in the Kaga region of Ishikawa prefecture. The characteristics defining this pottery is the vivid multicolored pictures that are drawn. The heavy brilliance of Japanese paint, five colors of green, yellow, red, purple, and navy blue are used, is beautiful in combination with the dynamic and brilliant line drawings.
Each kiln has its own style of painting, and the "Aote" of Kutani-ware and the "Aka-e fine drawing" of Miyamotoya kiln are the two most characteristic techniques. In addition, the technique called Kinrande, which was started in the Meiji era, became popular all over the world under the name of "Japan Kutani".
Beginning in the early Edo period in the middle of the 17th century, it created a unique and powerful stylistic beauty that combines generous paint and glitter, but suddenly stopped being made at the end of the 17th century. After that, it was revived around 1800 ("Revival Kutani"). Many fans and researchers are interested in this mysterious history.
